The incident at Helsingborg’s hospital during the Christmas holiday has been reported as an internal deviation and is now being investigated internally, reports HD/Sydsvenskan.

– This should not happen. We should not send a deceased patient up to a care unit, says emergency department manager Marcus Larsson to the newspaper.

It was clear to the staff from the start that the elderly, seriously ill patient was at the end of his life. It is not yet completely clear how long the patient was in the emergency department before the decision to admit him to a care unit was made. According to the head of the emergency room, it was a shorter time, but according to other people’s information to the newspaper, it took a number of hours.

High pressure during the Christmas holiday

The situation was very strained at the hospital during the Christmas holiday due to covid, flu and the RS virus. Marcus Larsson emphasizes that one always tries to prioritize patients at the end of life so that they do not have to die in the emergency room.

– It’s not that worthy. But something didn’t go as planned, he says.

SVT Nyheter Helsingborg reported on the strained situation at the hospital before the Christmas holiday. In the clip below, you can hear what the situation looked like at the hospital the day before Christmas Eve.
