After a long career in medicine and having postponed his retirement to attend the SAMCo de Rufino, Dr. Carlos Colomba resigned from his position due to the amount of tasks and pressures that weighed on him, and the lack of responses to requests for help.

I am 73 years old, I took over the management of this hospital before the pandemic, three years ago. I had the agreed retirement from the province, I suspended it to assume the hospital. The exhaustion of the whole situation forced me to resign,” he commented on the air in Chain OH!

His tiredness is explained from the multiple responsibilities that he had, from making guards to accompanying ambulances. “The fundamental situation was to cover guards, I did more guards than all the clinical doctors combined. My physical and mental situation was not enough.”

According to the province, there are plenty of hours to cover active guards. But the reality is that we must insist that the doctors do the corresponding shifts. Rufino’s SAMCo serves people from the locality, from rural areas, and from neighboring cities both in the province and in Buenos Aires and Córdoba.

“Doctors do not see the hours they have to lose on duty as attractive, I don’t know if they will think about the salary or the hours of work they share with the private sector. All those who work at the Rufino hospital, or the majority, work in the private ones. I covered active guards in the hospital and now I don’t know who will cover them. It is a call to attention to local but also provincial officialswho have to come to cover these problems”, he pointed out.

“I love this hospital very much, He turned 40 and I was at his inauguration. Until this Wednesday I was the only person who was there from the beginning, it hurts me a lot to leave it.”

In this regard, Colomba pointed out the province’s delay in adjudicating charges, something “innate to how it works”. As a result, “sometimes those of us in charge have to overload ourselves, and the directors are involved in everything. I also got into ambulances, for example.”

The interviewee asked again that “the province comes closer, to create a working group that works better of what is working. I was born and raised here, I love this city very much, I don’t want the hospital to be left unprotected,” he finally said.
