My friend, the photographer Gary, came to the restaurant for some short ribs with fried potatoes, cooked vegetable salad and, to drink, orangeade with ice to relieve the heat. “María, I was shocked to read an article yesterday about a large group of children who arrived at the Beaches of Ventanilla, Santa Rosa, Ancón and Aucallama (Huaral) to demand full compensation for the damage caused by the spill of thousands of barrels of oil into the sea last year.

The unique protest continued with the collection of garbage around the beach, as part of caring for the sea.
“They say that progress has been made with the remediation of the damage, but we do not see that it is completely clean. Many animals died and there are fishermen who have not been able to return to work. We want the right to clean beaches to be respected”said the minors.
It really is an example that the little ones demand the authorities to do everything possible so that these spas return to what they were before and that an environmental tragedy never happens again, like the one suffered North Lima in 2022.

The impact has not only been on the environment. For more than a year, thousands of fishermen, restaurants, merchants, workers and street vendors have not been able to work due to the pollution of the beaches and the sea. Other spills had happened before, but nothing like this one. The worst thing is that there is no one arrested. And those responsible walk around as calm as possible. How can you tell that authority is needed and that citizens feel that nobody defends them. This situation should be in Congress, but they are only dedicated to seeing their own interests.
May the protest also make us reflect on the importance of not dirtying our sea or spas. If we want to live as people, we don’t have to leave garbage in the sand, or drink liquor and even less listen to music at full volume.
You have to follow these rules to have a good time this summer:
- Do not take pets to the beach because they suffer and dehydrate.
- Take the garbage you produce. Don’t bury her. Not even animals do that.
- The beach is for romping, bathing and having a good time. If you want to party, go to a disco. Do not take your speakers to the beach, or drink on the sand.
- Take care of your belongings. Pickpockets always appear in crowds of people.
- Pay attention to the instructions of the lifeguards. You know, red flag means ‘stay out of the sea’.
- Follow the rules. They are made to respect others and have a good time. They weren’t made to annoy you.
