The echoes of the pandemic return

The lack of consensus and the alleged conspiracy theories charge us for the mistakes made during the pandemic. I am referring to the unusual growth in reports of new Covid-19 infections, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization, which alert about that silent, hidden but deadly enemy that is still out there. .

And it is possible that if things continue as they are, we will have to prepare to accept a possible mass national vaccination order, next fall, to prevent another outbreak of coronavirus.

We heard this week that analysts attribute the phenomenon to the fact that, although more people are getting sick, rigorous measures are no longer applied. Why, if since May the Joe Biden government has ended the emergency due to the coronavirus pandemic?

But not so fast, Mr. President, since according to the figures there are almost two and a half million people who were re-infected in some 17 of the 50 states of the union, something must be done.

And this situation leaves us on edge, because we believed that once we were sick we would already have the antivirus, but variants like Ómicron tell us otherwise, and challenge the vaccines applied by Pfizer, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson.

This surprise is almost as cruel as the threat in the years 2020 and 2021, because it warns us that we do not have immunity against COVID, even if we have received the vaccine.

So there are two ways out: that we have to agree to get vaccinated periodically, or at least every year, as happens with the flu or the flu.

Or that we learn to avoid the virus, to use the uncomfortable but saving mask more frequently, to extreme hygiene and to avoid the traditional greeting of shaking hands; but above all to recognize that health resources cannot be cut off, since the investigation of the coronavirus must continue, especially in richer countries like the United States.

Part of that charge that we talked about at the beginning is the endless debate and the resistance of millions of people who flatly said to the vaccine.

We said that herd immunity was needed so that with more immunized we would have fewer sick people, but it was not like that and millions of doses went to waste. Well, many were convinced of the theories that people like Donald Trump launched at the time, that, although he was infected, he dismissed the risks, setting an example against the massive immunization that we needed.

And now only in New York there are more than 600 thousand patients. This evil belongs to everyone, get to work and wash your hands very well.
