With The Flash, the superhero played by Ezra Miller gets his first cinematic solo adventure and is about to shake up the entire DC Universe. Now there is the second trailer, in which several worlds and timelines collide.

The Flash disrupts the multiverse

In the film, Barry Allen (aka The Flash) uses his superpowers to travel back in time to prevent his mother’s murder. However, this intrusion into the past will result in a momentous change in the future, creating a reality in which the supervillain General Zod returns to destroy Earth.

Zod previously appeared in the 2013 Superman film Man of Steel and continues to be portrayed in the new Flash film by Michael Shannon. But this isn’t the only return of a well-known character/actor to the DC Universe, by a long shot: In order to fix the chaos he’s caused, Barry needs heroic reinforcements and finds them in Michael Keaton’s Batman, for example to be brought out of retirement.

When one Batman isn’t enough

The 71-year-old actor last played the Dark Knight in Batman Returns 31 years ago. However, Keaton will not remain the only Batman in the film, because Ben Affleck also returns to his role as Bruce Wayne or Batman – the multiverse makes it possible.

Other roles include Michael Shannon, Ron Livingston, Maribel Verdú, Kiersey Clemons and Antje Traue. The new trailer also stars Sasha Calle in her role as Supergirl, who also joins the fight against General Zod. Comic fans can certainly count on further surprising appearances.

Whether this is actually the case will become apparent on June 15, 2023 at the latest, when The Flash starts in German cinemas. The film was directed by Andy Muschietti, who has also held the same position in both parts of the Stephen King remake of It and in the horror film Mama.
