Madrid, 21 apr. UEFA will meet next Monday the 24th for the first time its “Football Council”, a recently created consultative body that includes, among others, coaches and players such as the Italian Carlo Ancelotti, the French Zinedine Zidane, the Spanish Roberto Martínez, Juan Mata and Rafa Benítez, and the Argentine Javier Zanetti.

Approved by the UEFA Executive Committee at its last meeting in Lisbon earlier this month, it is a body designed to provide an institutional, yet independent, voice with experience and knowledge on fundamental football-related issues such as the Laws of Game, refereeing, the match calendar, the development of the youth elite and the well-being of the players.

As reported by UEFA this Friday, the members of the Football Council were selected based on their outstanding achievements in club or national team football, their impeccable international reputation and their extensive experience.

The inaugural meeting of this forum will be chaired by UEFA’s technical director and head of football, Zvonimir Boban, supported by Giorgio Marchetti, UEFA’s assistant general secretary and director of football, on matters related to the competition. and by UEFA’s head of refereeing, Roberto Rosetti, on arbitration-related matters.

The agenda for the first meeting foresees discussions on arbitration matters, such as UEFA’s line of intervention, VAR, the hands and behavior of the players, and matters of competition and medical football.

UEFA announced that the meetings will be an annual appointment on its calendar, although members will also meet when necessary. EFE
