Meeting the love of her life at 17, settling in a foreign country and living there the biggest scare of her life, such was the fate of Tatiana dignity. This national Bulgarian who has lived in Algeria for 60 ans recount thus its history, where mingle chance, fate and determination.

From the top of her 77 years, Tatiana has lived behind her. The latter returns step by step to each moment spent in Algeria and the reasons that make her stay to this day.

The moving story of Tatiana, a Bulgarian midwife who lived in Algeria for 60 years

Born in Bulgaria in the 1940s, Tatiana landed in Algeria in 1963. His mother, a nurse at the time, was sent to work in Algeria just after independence. Tatiana then remained alone with her father and sister for a few months, then returned to Algerian territory on the occasion of a courtesy visit. A visit that ends with a decision to move to the country for a few years as a family.

Meanwhile, Tatiana is a teenager and meets a young Algerian man in his twenties on his birthday. It was love at first sight, and the couple did not take long to formalize their union with a wedding. Tatiana, renamed ” Hanifa “, spends happy days with her husband, with whom she will conceive 3 beautiful boys.

Tatyana is midwife at the polyclinic of clear for many years, the opportunity for her to forge links with the local fairer sex. Neighbours, friends and acquaintances use his services from time to time “I happened to go out at 3 a.m. in my nightgown with my dressing gown on my back and my little bag, to deliver babies in my neighborhood” explains the latter.

The black decade, a high-risk period for foreigners

For Tatiana, her life in Algeria is a long calm river. A peaceful journey which is also shaken by the arrival of the terrorist regime in the 90s. As a foreign national, Tatiana is worried about her safety and tries many ways to hide her identity, to no avail.
