Cyril (Thomas Doret), a stubborn 12-year-old rebel, keeps finding excuses for his father (Jérémie Renier), a cook, who has abandoned him. Samantha (Cécile de France), owner of a hairdressing salon, takes him under her wing. Cyril ends up getting used to her, but a teenager from the estate leads him into delinquency.

The Dardenne brothers may leave their cold winter for the heat of summer, they remain true to themselves: they do not let go of their young male character, banishing any psychological explanation, identifying the pain of the child who, tirelessly, comes back to the charge with this resigned father. In doing so, they deliver a new lesson in pure cinema to the bone and give a little brother to Emilie Dequenne in “Rosetta” or to Jérémie Renier in “l’Enfant”. Thomas Doret is smashing.
