The 74-year-old monarch is honored by major English newspapers this Saturday. All welcome his arrival on the throne, even if some point to his advanced age for a new king.

The king in honor. Unsurprisingly, the British press gives pride of place to Charles III this Saturday, on the occasion of his coronation day in London. All welcome his arrival on the throne, even if some underline his age, 74 years old.

“The Fate of the King”

For the very serious The Guardian, the new king had to content himself with half a page, titled with a sober “coronation of King Charles”. Room is left for local elections, marked by a serious setback for the conservatives.

A 20-page supplement is however included with the daily for the occasion of the coronation and devoted to the great day of Charles III. “Long be his reign?” asks the newspaper on the cover, a sign of the lack of enthusiasm aroused by the arrival of the 74-year-old monarch on the throne, after the very popular Elizabeth II.

“The day of the king’s destiny”, announces on his side The Times, with the photo of a hilarious monarch in full crowd. “After 74 years of preparation, Charles III will be crowned during a ceremony calling on centuries-old traditions”, still indicates the daily in subtitle, recalling here again the advanced age of the young king.

“Here to Serve”

The Daily Telegraph has, for its part, pulled out all the stops, with a special 84-page magazine devoted to the event, unpublished for 70 years, and a supplement.

“I am here, not to be served, but to serve”, headlines the newspaper, lending very positive words to the young king. As The Timesthe king is shown with an admirer, a wide smile crossing his face.

On the tabloid side, the very popular The Sun chooses to highlight the impressive crown which will be deposited this Saturday on the head of Charles III, as well as that of his wife, and queen, Camilla.

“His crown and that of the queen,” writes the diary with a black and purple front page, the latter associated with royalty.

The photo of the royal couple is simply slipped into the top right corner of the front page, while a small place is left for Prince Harry, without an official role for the ceremony, but whose presence should be particularly scrutinized.
