Numerous vehicles circulate without a license plate or with poor visibility/day
Traffic in La Plata has its peculiarities, and among them is the growing presence of vehicles without a license plate or with poor visibility, which is considered an infraction that in some cases can cause serious disturbances to the owners of these vehicles or to third parties as they are hit by a car, truck or motorcycle without identification.
According to the latest statistics released by the Municipality of La Plata in the last year, more than 300 vehicles were fined and left out of the circuit until the situation normalized. Meanwhile, so far in 2023, more than 100 vehicles were detected in violation for driving without the license plate placed. The local Citizen Control Undersecretary reported that 28 offenses were registered in January, 30 offenses in February, while in March there were 34 offenses of this type and 19 in the current month.
For those who suffer the theft or loss of license plates, the risk can be enormous. There are criminal organizations that use them to commit some crime and until it is verified that the identification does not correspond to the hijacked vehicle, they run the risk of being charged.
In the event that someone suffers the theft of one or both of the car’s license plates, the complaint must be filed. With the police exposure for the theft of the plates, the procedure is completed in the Automotive Property Registry, in which a form 02 is requested.
Although this form is free, in the Automotive Property Registry the certification of the signature is charged, you have to pay the cost of manufacturing the patents.
It should be noted that the need to file a complaint and the replacement process for stolen or lost license plates is intended to avoid possible criminal proceedings if the license plate was placed on a car used in a homicide or robbery or if the license plate was installed on a vehicle involved in a traffic accident with victims.
It is worth noting that the absence of the patent can also have economic consequences for those who lose one or both plates, since if they drive with the vehicle in these conditions they can face a fine of close to 230,000 pesos. In turn, it can be a reason for kidnapping the vehicle and retention of the driver’s license.
The procedure to recover the patents must be carried out in an official Automotive Registry, the plates cannot be bought elsewhere. Once the complaint is made, the Automotive Registry delivers provisional licenses: white paper with numbers and letters in red, until the metal plate arrives with the duplicate, triple or quadruple number, as the case may be. This paper plate has a term of 30 days, renewable in case the metal sheet has not arrived before that initially stipulated term. Until obtaining the provisional identification on paper and red numbers, it is advisable not to drive with the vehicle in question, in order to avoid the aforementioned fines and penalties.
The replacement of the plates has a cost close to 10,000 pesos for the forms
that must be completed: new ID (if there is more than one owner of the vehicle with an ID, you pay for each plastic); the set of plates (even if one of the two is lost, the replacement is for both because both the front and the back must be placed the same); the signature; and another allusive form that must be completed. You also have to add the cost of the infraction report that the shot has. Therefore it is cumbersome and expensive to lose one or both license plates, whatever the reason.
In addition, to start the process, once the day of the shift granted arrives, the interested party must go to the Registry with the original national identity document (DNI) and the original title of the vehicle.
Being considered a serious offense, it is stipulated that the fine has the highest modules according to traffic regulations. As if the road did not have the VTV or crosses a red light. This means that it can reach 1,000 fixed units (UF). Each UF has a cost of 229.5 pesos, according to the value set last March.

Weeks ago it emerged that a car used in a criminal attack that took place in the interior of the country had a license plate that had been stolen in Rosario. The car had a request for seizure but, because it was driving with a stolen license plate for which no complaint had been made, no one stopped it on the road.
Many times the patents of the shots that are used for some crime are raw material for the manufacture of patents, an item that, in some cases, is published on digital platforms.
It should be noted that due to the series of patent thefts, different security elements also appeared on the market to prevent the theft of the plates, which are generally fixed to the body with conventional screws. These patent anti-theft kits cost between 5,000 and 20,000 pesos and consist of a series of screws that make it difficult to loot the plates.
