Unfortunately, don’t expect to watch The Last of Us in 4K in France. Even if Amazon Prime Video has obtained the rights to broadcast the HBO series, French viewers will not be able to take full eyes.
The first episode of The Last of Us series is available on Amazon Prime Video since yesterday, Monday January 16th. This is great news for fans who were waiting with uncertainty for the series in France. We remind you that it is broadcast on HBO in the United States, but the contract between HBO and OCS for the broadcast of the series in France has just ended. In any case, the arrival of The Last of Us on Prime Video is accompanied by bad news. The series adapted from the famous survival horror video game is not not available in 4K UHD in France.
On HBO Max in the United States, The Last of Us is however well broadcast in 4K UHD. In France, Prime Video only offers a 1080p stream, nothing more. We are also not entitled to an HDR or Dolby Vision version. French viewers will therefore have to make do with the bare minimum to watch The Last of Us in France.

Why did the post-apocalyptic series not receive the same preferential treatment in France? Hard to say, but French fans can at least watch it legally. Only a few days ago, we didn’t even know yet who would get the broadcast rights quicklyso it’s better than nothing.
Regarding audio, Prime Video offers Dolby Digital Plus (E-AC3) for VO and VF, but without Atmos. Even on HBO Max, the series is offered with Dolby Digital Plus (E-AC3) tracks with Dolby Atmos.
We also note that Prime Video offers very few choices for The Last of Us. The series is only available in two languages (English and French) with two subtitle options, English and French as well. There is also no audio description for blind and visually impaired people. Given the excellent launch of The Last of Us in the United States, which crashed the HBO Max servers, we also expected a launch in better conditions in France. However, we will have to settle for 1080p for the moment.
