The Last of Us series will be faithful, but not on all points either. Violence will indeed be much less present than in the games, but for good reason

As fans eagerly await it, the series The Last of Us of HBO is revealed little by little. We’ve already seen the entire cast in costume, some of the secrets that the series should reveal to us as well as a ton of visuals, but Neil Druckmann, creator of the license The Last of Ustells us more about the differences between the show and the games.

The Last of Us series less violent than the first game

In the columns of the next SFX magazine, the man returns to violence and declares that it will be much less present in the series than in the games. A form of censorship of video games deemed far too violent. But Neil Druckmann does not see it with a bad eye, however, since he explains that the showrunners had very good reasons not to spread as much hemoglobin as in his games.

We needed a certain amount of action and violence as full-fledged mechanics so you could connect with Joel and feel his emotions.
But that kind of thing doesn’t exist in passive media. Very early in the writing, one of the things I loved hearing most from Craig Mazin and HBO was, “Let’s cut out all the violence except the essential.” This allowed the violence to have even more of an impact than in the game, because when you stick to showing the threat and see the reaction of the characters to that threat, it makes it even more more frightening. So when we reveal the Infected as the Clickers, we truly understand what caused mankind’s extinction and why everyone is so afraid of it.

In other words, the series The Last of Us should focus more on the human aspect than on the big show and the gore. The objective of the series is therefore to make the infected more frightening and threatening than ever, where in the game, we tend to massacre them with a shovel by multiplying the bloody killings. The violence will therefore not be as gratuitous as in the games. More generally, action should be less present in favor of tension.

It must be said when in the basic game, although it is less violent and gory than the second opus, the killings remain rather violent and brutal. The showrunners and HBO certainly don’t want to turn their series into a clone of The Walking Dead, the cult series from AMC, which has never been deprived when it was necessary to put guts on the screen and more. It remains to be seen how they managed their sleight of hand.
