In an interview with SFX Magazine, Neil Druckmann who is also the co-creator of the series explained the difference between violence in games and on TV. In the games, he said that: ” we need some amount of action or violence that we could use for game mechanics so you can connect with Joel “. The objective is indeed that the players can see the world of The Last of Us through the eyes of Joel Miller Who is the main character. Moreover, Neil Druckmann recently unveiled a photo of Joel and his daughter Sarah in the series.
Regarding the series, the production preferred tone down the violence of The Last of Us so that viewers connect better with the story. They will be less frightened by what they see on the screen. Neil Druckmann clarified that co-creator Craig Mazin and HBO officials wanted to remove the violence ” except for the essentials “. Clear, The Last of Us will not be a horror series which will terrify the spectators. While the extreme violence in video games helps players connect more easily with characters, Neil Druckmann explained that television is not a passive medium.
The HBO series The Last of Us will be broadcast from January 15, 2023 on HBO Max in the United States. The streaming service is not yet available in France and we do not yet know which French channel will broadcast the series. We will therefore have to wait a little longer before knowing the release date of the series in France.
