The Mexican Stock Exchange falls 1.2% and closes the week with a loss of 1.37%

Mexico City, Aug 11 (EFE).- The Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV) registered this Friday a strong fall of 1.2% in its main indicator to settle at 53,242.16 units, a percentage that pushed the second weekly close consecutive negative, with a loss of 1.37%.

“In the capital market, most of the stock indices closed the week with losses, among other causes, due to the expectation that interest rates in the United States will remain high for longer and the publication of negative economic data in China, that make us think that its economy is not as strong as expected”, the director of Economic and Financial Analysis of Banco Base, Gabriela Siller, explained to EFE.

In Mexico, Siller commented, the Price and Quotation Index (IPC), the main indicator of the BMV, “closed the week with a loss of 1.2%, while, at the issuer level, the losses of: Grupo Financiero Inbursa stood out (-7.14%), the airline Volaris (-6.82%) and Arca Continental (-5.01%).

For his part, the director of Economic Analysis at the Actinver financial group, Enrique Covarrubias, pointed out that in the weekly balance, the CPI registered a loss and with it linked two consecutive weeks in negative territory.

Despite the setback registered this day, the IPC accumulates a gain so far this year of 10.47% and is located at 6.18% of its historical maximum of 56,536.68 points, reached on April 1.

During the day, the peso appreciated 0.4% weekly against the dollar, trading at 17.01 units per greenback, after trading at 17.08 at the close of the previous week, according to data from the Bank of Mexico.

The IPC closed the session at 53,242.16 units, with a loss of 646.87 points and a negative variation of 1.2% compared to the previous day.

The volume traded on the market reached 346 million titles for an amount of 14,716 million pesos (about 865 million dollars/789 million euros).

Of the 488 firms that traded on the day, 161 ended with their prices rising, 299 had losses and 28 closed without changes.

The titles with the greatest upward variation were from the telecommunications firm Controladora Axtel (CTAXTEL A), with 3.72%; the chemical products trader Grupo Pochteca (POCHTEC B), with 3.31%, and the Alsea restaurant chain (ALSEA), with 3.22%.

In contrast, the largest downward variations were from the logistics company Grupo Traxión (TRAXION A), with -11.25%; from the home builder Desarrolladora Homex (HOMEX), with -8.33%, and the telecommunications company América Móvil (AMX B), with -4.36%.

During the day, of the four sectors, three fell: materials (-1.16%), industrial (-0.84%) and frequent consumption (-0.4%), while only the financial (0.43%). EFE
