The case of an 11-month-old baby allegedly stabbed by two criminals in the city of iquitosregion loreto, left the entire Peru dismayed. The population could not conceive that any person, no matter how thug, would have the courage to stab a newborn in front of his parents for the simple fact of not finding anything to steal from them.
The horrendous story began the night of last Saturday, May 6, when -according to the statement of the parents- they were supposedly intercepted in the middle of the Nanay bridge by two bloodthirsty criminals aboard a motorcycle.
“I have seen that he (his partner) is thrown away, I ran. Then he pulls me onto the floor and I kneel. At that moment he slaps me in the face, he throws me to the ground. I have not released my son. (The delinquent) Take out the knife or I already had it in my hand and my baby itches,” the mother said through tears.
The violence of the delinquentsAccording to the father, it was unleashed because they did not want to be robbed. This would not have been to the liking of the attackers, who supposedly paid off by fatally wounding the baby.
“We don’t let them steal from us. We also had a motorcycle and they did not proceed to rob us. They approached the mom and did what they did,” the dad said.
The baby did not die instantly and fought for five days for its life. On May 11, his little body could not resist the puncture wound and he ceased to exist. The indignation in the country grew, while the authorities offered 150,000 soles for the person who will provide information that allows the capture of “those responsible.”
In the last few hours, however, the case took a 180-degree turn, when the prosecutor’s office reported that the child’s parents would be preliminary investigated for entering into contradictions during the police interrogation and the reconstruction of the events.
After the legal proceedings, General PNP Héctor Bernal, head of the IV Macro Police Region loretonoticed the existence of these contradictions when listening to the parents themselves recounting the minutes before and the exact moment of the alleged assault.
“Criminal acts are not committed on the bridge because of the security that exists. They have entered a dark place, because there is no public lighting, desolate and then they run away from the place saying that they had been robbed. Then they took the baby to the hospital,” the high command told Trade.
He added that every day, from 9 at night, at the entrance to the bridge there is a guard who prevents traffic due to the null public lighting that the area has. The latter was confirmed with information from the Regional Government of Loreto which speaks of limited access and lack of light.
The investigations suggest that the parents of the 11-month-old baby arrived at the entrance of the Nanay bridge and, after allegedly convincing the guard with lies that they lived in a hunt on the other side of the structure, they managed to enter.
According to the statements of the parents, the thugs fled towards the beach that is on Av. La Marina. But to get to that point, the attackers would have had to leave through the same place where the couple entered.
Regarding this, the police reported that the area guard dismissed the parents’ version, since there was no movement of any motorcycle or person with the characteristics described by the complainants.
“We handle the hypothesis that there has been a problem between the two and by chance, or their issues, this situation has arisen or they have simply coincided in committing this crime,” revealed the general.
On the morning of this Sunday, May 14, it transpired that the mother of the deceased accused her partner of being responsible for the fateful event.
“You have done something, you have planned this so as not to give me your son’s pension. If my son dies, you will be to blame, because you have done this to him,” the woman scolded him. He categorically denied having anything to do with the baby’s death, but she assured that he “does not believe her.”
“Why didn’t they kill me, if they wanted to kill me they would have. I know that you have killed my son so as not to give me the pension, I know. So that you go with your wife that you have in Lime. I don’t know why you did them,” added the mother.
