The sea is not only deep, it is also far. Because according to a new report leaked via the cinema chain AMC in the states, the live-action version of The Little Mermaid will clock in at 135 minutes. That’s nearly an hour extra compared to the original’s modest 83-minute run time, and if true, it also makes the film the longest of any Disney live-action remake to date. What exactly the extra playing time will give us, we can only speculate about, but if we compare, for example, with Beauty and the Beast, which was released six years ago, it offered significantly more background story than the original animated film. So presumably something similar will happen here.
