Contrary to what we may be used to, especially at Disney, The strange Christmas of Mr. Jack is not a cartoon. No, this is a live action film called Stop Motion (also called stop motion). All the characters were created in the form of puppets, installed in their decor. For each scene the puppeteers move the limbs of the characters and take a photo of the result. It’s not for nothing that stop motion is also called step-by-step animation. The filming time is therefore very long: it took no less than 3 years to finish The strange Christmas of Mr. Jack. This system, rarely used for feature films, subsequently gave rise to two other films of the same genre, also imagined by Tim Burton: Funeral rites et Frankenweenie. Both will therefore be made in a dark universe and via the stop motion system.
