Released on March 3, 2017, the Nintendo Switch is still a success and manages, five years later, to break a huge record in our region allowing it to go down in history.

With the Nintendo Switch, Big N was able to climb the slope and make people forget the interstellar flop of the Wii U. A performance that secures it first place in France.

The Nintendo Switch dethrones the Wii and the PS4

We can say that the Japanese manufacturer has come a long way because of a console: the Wii U. A monumental failure since only 13.56 million units were sold, against 101.63 million for the Wii. It hurts but the company has bounced back easily thanks to the Nintendo Switch which, in almost five years, has sold more than 114.33 million machines worldwide.

In France, and despite its age, the Switch has achieved a phenomenal record by being the best-selling home console of all time with 7.09 million copies. This is more than the PS4 with its 6 million on our territory, or the Wii with 6.3 million units.

We sold 987,000 Switches in 2022, which is the best performance on the market. One in two consoles sold in France last year was a Switch.

The best selling games in France

Phillipe Lavoué, general manager of Nintendo France, also revealed that 50% of the Switch was bought by families with children, and the remaining 50% by young adults. And not surprisingly, it is the Nintendo Switch exclusives that are the most successful.
