Fish, flowers and magic in the work of Josignacio

He painter With Cuban roots, he has devoted himself fully to the plastic arts, which are, as he once said, his reason for life, a necessity. His creativity is a river and his appetite for images is insatiable.

With a career spanning more than 30 years and numerous awards and exhibitions, Josignacio has carved out a style between abstract and neofigurative that places him at the top of contemporary Cuban painting. Furthermore, within his poetry the technique known as Plastic Paint Medium stands out.

Their references include, among others, two groups that had an impact in the late 1950s: the group Los Once, with artists such as Hugo Consuegra, Antonio Vidal and Fayad Jams; as well as the so-called Ten Concrete Painters, with an emphasis on geometric abstraction, with artists such as Mario Carreo Morales, Sand Dari, José Mijares and Pedro de Ora.

Josignacio was the first living Latin and Cuban artist in the world who sold a single work of art for more than 3 million dollars, since his work The Music is Timeless (1989), part of his guitar series, sold for a hammer price of $3,481,205.00 at McCarthy-Williams auctions in London on March 10, 2016.

Some of the most recognized motifs in his creative corpus are the dancers, the guitars and, of course, the fish and flowers, which stand out in this exhibition. Its flowers in containers are an explosion of color and movement, as if bursting the time frame of the flower itself to show the before and after of the petals in the same plane.

The same happens with his fish, with which he achieves an effect of superposition of elements, where scales, spines and fins are intertwined with spots of color.
