New year, same challenge on the job market: How do candidates successfully meet companies, what makes job advertisements really convincing? Randstad and the opinion research institute Mente>Factum interviewed applicants.

Declining number of applicants, growing demands, consistently high demand on the job market: Many companies start the year with difficult personnel planning. How do you reach the right candidates and ensure that your employees are happy and productive for the company in the long term? A successful appointment begins with a convincing job offer. The current survey by Randstad and Mente>Factum shows which offers employers score with Randstad New Work trend report on the subject of employer branding.

The top criteria: This is what applicants look for in a job offer

The top criterion for a job offer for applicants is still the salary (67%). A good transport connection (51%) and a good working atmosphere (50%) are in second and third place. Then comes job security with 47% and work-life balance and working time flexibility with 46%. The reputation of the company is secondary, but still an important criterion for 33% of the applicants. If one differentiates according to the educational background of the employees, the priorities diverge.

For applicants with a high school diploma or a university degree, after salary (68%), job security is in second place among the top job criteria (50% – average 47%). Professional tasks (45% – average 41%) and opportunities for advancement (23% – average 20%) are also particularly important for this target group. The desire to work from home is slightly above average in this group of applicants (35% – average 31%).

But more self-determination and flexibility at work are required most of all by those with fewer qualifications. Flexibility in the organization of their working hours (average 46%) and good transport connections (average 51%) count for 71% of respondents without training. The reputation of a company is also of above-average importance for the less qualified at 52% (average 33%).

New work and more flexibility should not be a privilege, but standard

“Flexible working according to the guiding principle of New Work must not be a privilege for the elite of the working world,” demands Susanne Wißfeld, Managing Director of Business Innovations & Concepts at the Randstad Group Germany. “Enabling New Work on a broad basis is an important key factor in positioning oneself as an attractive employer for target groups with lower qualifications. In production and logistics, but also for cleaning companies and security services, differentiated shift plans, for example, offer opportunities to compare the current workload with the needs of the employees”, explains Susanne Wißfeld: “This also works self-organized if teams in shift work give each other freedom.”
