On Wednesday afternoon, a foreign man in his 20s was killed in an apartment in Bergen. Three other men were present.

– One of them has the status of a witness and another is accused of murder, but released because the grounds for suspicion have weakened. The two have explained how they experienced the incident, says police attorney Sven Arne Dahl-Michelsen to TV 2.

The third man in the apartment was remanded in custody for four weeks on Friday. He is charged with murder, but has not yet allowed himself to be questioned.

– Why he didn’t want it, you can bring his defender. As I understand it, he has signaled that it may become relevant at a later date, says Dahl-Michelsen.

Will go for questioning

On Friday afternoon, the detained man’s defender, lawyer Cathrine Bang, states that her client plans to go in for questioning.

– He wants to explain himself, so that is our focus now. The client takes it hard to sit on restrictions, especially isolation, but it was as expected when he agreed to restrictions on my advice, she writes to TV 2.

When asked when it will be appropriate to carry out an interrogation, Bang does not want to answer.

– But is there talk of going into questioning now, while the documents are classified?

– No, not at first, but it is an ongoing assessment, she replies.

Appearing as acquaintances

As long as the man accused of murder has not been questioned, the police do not want to release any particular information about the case.

Dahl-Michelsen will not answer whether the police have any idea about the motive for the murder, or whether the police believe they have control of a murder weapon.

He also does not want to say anything about what relationship the people involved appear to have had, beyond the fact that “they appear to be acquaintances”.

– That is one of the things we would like to ask the accused about, says Dahl-Michelsen.

Have received the autopsy report

It is the man in custody who is registered at the address where the murder took place. The police currently do not know for sure whether more people lived there.

The police have seized a number of items from the address. At the same time, the police on Friday received a preliminary autopsy report in the case.

– Now we will, among other things, compare certain seizures against the preliminary autopsy report, says Dahl-Michelsen.

He does not want to say anything about the injuries to the deceased until the detained man has been questioned.

Formally still charged

The man accused of murder, who was released on Thursday, still has formal status as the accused. A murder charge may have to be dropped by the Attorney General.

– Do you want to insist on a layoff for him already now?

– We are in an early phase, and there are still investigations we want to do. He is formally charged, says Dahl-Michelsen.

– But is he actually checked out of the case as a possible perpetrator?

– I don’t want to answer that now, he says.

Children lost their father

It was just after 1.30pm on Wednesday that the police were notified via AMK about an injured man in his 20s in Løvstakkveien in Bergen.

The man was transported to Haukeland University Hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival.

The murdered man was a father.

– A small child is now deprived of the opportunity to be with his father. It is a great sadness for the child and for the family. Survivors are deeply affected and are left with no answers as to how this could happen, says the family’s welfare lawyer Ellen Eikeseth Mjøs to NTB.
