The Pope calls for the use of Artificial Intelligence "at the service of humanity"

Vatican City, Aug 8 (EFE).- Pope Francis underlines “the urgency of guiding the conception and use” of Artificial Intelligence (AI) so that it is “at the service of Humanity” in his Message on the occasion of the World Day of Peace that was published this Tuesday by the Vatican.

“The important advances made in the field of AI have an increasingly profound impact on human activity, personal and social life, politics and the economy,” said the pontiff, who “urges an open dialogue on the meaning of these new technologies, endowed with disruptive potential and ambivalent effects”.

The Pope recalls “the need to be vigilant and act so that a logic of violence and discrimination is not introduced into the production and use of such devices, at the expense of the most fragile and the excluded: injustice and inequalities fuel conflicts and antagonisms”.

And in this context, he stresses “the urgency of guiding the conception and use of Artificial Intelligences in a responsible manner, so that they are at the service of Humanity and the protection of our common home”, which “requires expanding ethical reflection to education and law”.

“The protection of the dignity of the person and the care of a fraternity truly open to the entire human family are essential conditions for technological development to contribute to the promotion of justice and peace in the world”, he concludes. EFE
