Madrid. The leader of the Spanish Socialist Workers Party (PSOE), Pedro Sánchez, euphoricly told thousands of his supporters in Madrid that the right and the extreme right “have been defeated” in the parliamentary elections this Sunday in Spain.
“The involutionist bloc of the Popular Party (PP) with Vox have been defeated,” he said after getting fewer deputies in this contest, but with the possibility of forging alliances to form a government, adding that “there are many more of us who want Spain to advance and it will continue like this.”
Sánchez addressed the militants and supporters from a makeshift platform shortly before, to which he came out accompanied by his wife, Begoña Gómez, the PSOE Deputy Secretary General and Finance Minister, María Jesús Montero, the Organization Secretary, Santos Cerdán and the PSOE President, Cristina Narbona.
He explained that when he brought forward the elections a few weeks ago, after the regional and municipal ones, he believed that society had to decide which course to take, either forward or backward, as in his opinion “the involutionary bloc of the PP with Vox” proposes.
The socialist militants who have come to protect their leader, shouted “They will not pass!” in a festive atmosphere for having achieved a better result than expected. Now a scenario of blockade opens since both the left and the right have a difficult time gaining a majority.
However, Sánchez has affirmed that Spain has been “very clear” and the citizens who have voted have been “clearly and resoundingly clear”. “The involutionist block of retreat that proposed a total repeal of all the advances we have made during the last four years has failed”, he exclaimed, causing general applause.
In this line, he has indicated that those who proposed “machismo, the setback in rights and freedoms have failed” and the involutionist bloc that formed PP and Vox has been “defeated”.
