To mark the British monarch’s first anniversary since her death on September 8, the Royal Family shared a photo of the Queen, along with a tribute.

Queen Elizabeth II would have celebrated her 97th birthday this Friday. To mark the date, the royal family paid tribute to the monarch on her first birthday since her death on September 8, 2022.

On social media, King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla shared a photo of the former British sovereign, wearing a pale blue outfit and hat and holding a bouquet of flowers in her hand.

This snap was taken during a visit by the Queen in June 2022 for ‘Holyrood Week’, a traditional ceremony to hand over the keys to the city of Edinburgh.

“Today we commemorate the incredible life and legacy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on her 97th birthday,” the caption reads.

“When Her Majesty was born in April 1926, Princess Elizabeth and her family did not expect her to become Queen. (…) She is now the longest reigning British monarch. and the only one in history to have celebrated a platinum jubilee”, continues the royal family in the caption of the photo.

This tribute comes three weeks before the coronation of King Charles III. Organized at Westminster Abbey, this royal event will be held on May 6, nearly 70 years after the coronation of Elizabeth II on June 2, 1953.
