Almost everything we’ve heard about the reboot of the Skate series so far has been really good news that fans have appreciated. For some reason, EA has apparently realized that they now need to throw some grit into the machinery and have therefore decided to add something to the game that absolutely no one (zero people!) has ever asked for – Swag Bags. You know those bags of little gifts that are given out for free at events and fairs.

While this is usually something positive and fun, these are no ordinary swag bags as you have to pay for them (with currency that you earn in-game, although data-miners have revealed that it appears that this currency can also be purchased with – as expected – real money). Additionally, each swag bag contains one of five items. You get to see these five items that you can get before you buy, but only one of them will be given to you and the odds are not revealed.

As you’ve probably figured out by now, there’s another common term for these types of swag bags – and that’s loot boxes. A practice that is universally abhorred and considered so reprehensible, as well as dangerous for minors because it resembles gambling, that some countries have banned it.

Although Skate is a ‘free to play’ title, we fully understand that there has to be a way to make money (developers also want to be paid and servers are not free). That being said, we really wish EA had chosen a solution other than loot boxes, or what do you think?
