Among the most disturbing stories is the legend of ‘Buziraco’, a mysterious ‘demon’ who is said to wander at night on top of the hill.
However, the descriptions of ‘Buziraco’ vary according to the versions of the legend, but it is generally attributed a terrifying appearance: a being of great stature, with horns, bright eyes and a disturbing laugh. Some testimonies claim to have seen ‘Buziraco’ prowling in the darkness of the hill, while others speak of strange noises and inexplicable presences at night, in this area of the city.
One of the stories that has most captivated the caleñosis the belief that this demon ‘traveled from Spain in colonial times’ and was worshiped by African men and women around the fire.
It is rumored that when the religious of the time found out that “there was a demon” and they did not think twice and began to exorcise the place, and for this reason they put the crosses on the hill to banish this ‘evil being’.
