"The time has passed to say I'm leaving," Monreal tells Ebrard before warning of a break with Morena

MEXICO CITY (apro).- The licensed senator and candidate for the presidential candidacy for Morena, Ricardo Monreal Ávila, asserted that it is already “too late” to break unity and abandon the party, even if the preferences do not favor him .

The foregoing after former Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard warned that he could break with Morena in case there was a “scam” in the survey to elect the coordinator of the Defense Committees of the Fourth Transformation, which will be defined on September 6.

“If they scam me, it would not be going to another party, I would have to report that they did it, it would be a break, a catastrophe for Morena, I don’t think it will happen, but it would be the only scenario in which I could have a situation of that nature. ”, commented the former foreign minister in the framework of the first discussion organized by Proceso.

@revistaproceso In the first conversation organized by Proceso, @Marcelo Ebrard was questioned about the possibility of changing parties if he did not win the national poll for Morena to be a presidential candidate. #Process #Journalism #Elections2024 #Brunette #ForYou #For you ? original sound – Process Magazine

At an event in Mexico City, he also warned that he would not allow a “scoundrel.”

“That they want to alter the result of the will of the people, for me that would be. That you want to modify the result, that you want to present a survey that is not true. Something like this, I see it difficult because several pollsters asked us, it is difficult to implement, but they ask me and I tell them that would be a very important reason for not accepting the process, ”he said.

After these assertions, from Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Monreal affirmed that “it is not time” to threaten to step aside if preferences do not favor him.

“Dignity is above all else,” he said, and recalled that all the contenders agreed to adhere to the rules of the internal process, which include not holding debates, not speaking ill of other applicants, taking five surveys and requesting a license or resignation from their public offices.

“It’s not the time, the time has passed to say ‘I’m leaving’, not anymore. Democrats also have to show consistency. (…) I am going to honor the results of the polls. I am not going to give an excuse for there to be a division in Morena,” Monreal stressed.

He also recalled that part of the guidelines considers that the applicants who manage to position themselves in second and third place in the survey will be able to seek the coordination of the Morena benches in the Chamber of Deputies or in the Senate of the Republic.

And in case of not accepting, they could opt for a position in the federal government, while the rest of the “corcholatas” would have a place in the multi-member lists.

“I’m not looking for that, I’m looking to win the election, win the nomination and, if that’s not the case, I’m going to honor my word and I’m going to be where I help Morena to ratify the 2018 victory,” he interrupted.

He announced that if he does not participate in politics in the future, he could continue working as a professor at the Faculty of Law of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
