Washington DC, United States.- The United States will require airline passengers coming from China to show negative results in Covid-19 tests, as global concerns about the spread of the virus have increased since the country lifted its restrictions.

Travelers coming directly from China or who were in the country 10 days before their departure for the US will be required to show a negative PCR or antigen test for the coronavirus, federal health officials said Wednesday.

The testing requirement will go into effect on January 1.

Covid-19 has been spreading unabated in China since the government lifted its policy of strict quarantine and isolation for exposed and infected people.

Nearly 37 million people may have been infected with the virus in a single day last week, according to estimates by the Chinese government’s top health authority.
