There are series that never really make it into public memory, but deserve it. One of these insider tips, which is not only entertaining but also short, is called “Les Revenants” in the French original and is called “The Returned” in this country. The mystery series is not to be confused with the US remake, which is also called “The Returned”, but the original is far better and available on Disney+ in Germany.
The Returned: Mystery and zombie series with a difference
Anyone who has seen “The Walking Dead” will quickly agree that the really interesting thing about the series is the interpersonal relationships were. How to behave towards other people in the face of civilization’s end of the world has always been more exciting than shooting down zombies. That’s what “The Returned” is all about: In a French mountain village, everyone knows everyone and the whole town knows what happened to the Séguret family. one of the twin daughters Camille, died in a bus accident a few years ago. The sadness is great, but the surprise is greater than the family members suddenly believe that Camille is standing in front of them again.
An aftermath of grief? A ghost? But the lost daughter is really back. She eats strangely and doesn’t look particularly “healthy” at the same time, but she’s back and after a short time it turns out: She’s not alone, other deceased people are suddenly among the living again – although they can’t say for themselves what’s happened. That’s what we have to find out now, because the dead all have one thing in common…
