Durek Verrett (48) tells the German newspaper Cheerful.

It was this summer that Princess Märtha Louise (51) and Durek Verrett could reveal their engagement.

By then the couple had been together for three years.

– Love does not judge where you come from or who you are as a person. Love creates bridges between people, cultures and religions. And we are happy to have found each other, across continents, ethnicity and social background, the couple wrote in a press release.

Needs transplant

The 48-year-old reveals that it is health problems that hold the couple back from giving each other their yes.

Verrett shares that in 2012 he underwent a kidney transplant. Back then, he received a kidney from his sister, but now he needs another transplant.

– I can reveal that as long as I don’t have a new kidney, the wedding plans are on hold, he says in the interview.

– It should be the best day of our lives, with a new kidney.

He can also tell the German newspaper that Märtha Louise herself wanted to donate her own kidney, but that she was not suitable.

– Märtha would have done it, but her kidney didn’t fit. So we keep looking. I am sure that one day we will find one, he says frankly in the interview.

Commenting on the royal couple

In the interview, Verrett also comments on his relationship with the king and queen:

– Although many do not believe it, my relationship with King Harald and Queen Sonja is very good.

– They have supported me in the last weeks and months, and that really means a lot to me, he says to the German newspaper.

Durek Verrett: – I have always wanted to support my fiancée, Märtha Louise
