Remember. At the end of season 2 of The Witcher, Netflix subscribers who watched the series learned that the Nilfgaardian emperor Emhyr Van Emreis was actually the knight Duny. This revelation does not come without consequences. In effect, the knight Duny is none other than the husband of Pavetta Fiona Elen, princess of the kingdom of Cintra and mother of Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon. Emhyr Van Emreis is therefore Ciri’s father, but that’s not all.
Let’s leave the series for a while to immerse ourselves in the novels written by Andrzej Sapkowski. Throughout the pages, the Emperor of Nilfgaard discovers a prophecy predicting a cataclysm as well as the birth of a child resulting from an incestuous relationship with an unparalleled destiny. According to the books, this son is destined to dominate the Continent, which strikes a chord with Emhyr, whose expansionist policy is no secret to anyone. An incestuous marriage with his own daughter Cirilla and the consumption of the latter could thus allow him to concretize the said prophecy and to engender this son supposed to govern the world of The Witcher.
Netflix’s “Lord of the Rings”
Fans are not always kind to the extended universe project stamped “The Witcher” produced by Netflix. The first two seasons of the main series with Henry Cavill in the role of Geralt de Riv received a good reception, in spite of the many criticisms made against them with in sight the liberties taken with the novels by the screenwriters. However, The Blood Legacy spin-off (Blood Origin of its English title) suffered the wrath of the press and the general public, as evidenced by its ratings on RottenTomatoes (31% press / 13% audience).
Nevertheless, The Nightmare of the Wolf animated film was unanimous among witchers and rekindled the flame of passion. And Netflix strikes while the iron is hot. The Witcher Season 3 will be released on Netflix during the summer of 2023, and risks being split into two parts like season 4 of Stranger Things. Finally, the following seasons of The Witcher will have to do without Henry Cavill laying down his arms. The role is given to Liam Hemsworth, the little brother of Chris Hemsworth aka the God of Thunder Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
