The world knows what happened in Venezuela

MIAMI.- Representatives of Venezuelan presidential candidate Edmundo González Urrutia and political leader María Corina Machado said that the world knows the reality of what happened on Sunday in the elections in Venezuela and that they will strive to defend their victory in the face of the results, “fraudulent” for many observers, and which favor dictator Nicolás Maduro.

At a press conference in Doral, Maria Teresa Morin, coordinator of the US Venezuela Command, said: “This is a day that will not be forgotten in our country. The entire world knows what happened in Venezuela yesterday.”

Morín emphasized: “Edmundo is our president with 70% of the votes. We are people of peace and we believe in the democratic path to achieve profound changes. Yesterday we broke historical records of electoral mobilization.”

She said the campaign was “incredible and emotional,” describing it as “a remarkable phenomenon in Venezuela, with crowds waiting for hours to see María Corina Machado in the streets.”

The head of the opposition campaign in the US invited people to reflect on the nearly 4 million Venezuelans abroad, whose votes, she says, would have been for González, “but we were prevented from voting abroad.”

According to Morín, both Venezuela and the world “heard a loud clamor at the polls,” attributing the leadership of the campaign to María Corina.

He stressed the importance of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s statement on the need to count every vote fairly and transparently.

“We will defend the truth until the end, and what happened yesterday is our truth,” he said.

“We will continue fighting”

Meanwhile, Eliud Kovach, coordinator of the United Platform of Venezuela in the United States, agreed with the forcefulness of Morín’s message: “We had an unprecedented electoral organization. We know the truth, and we must show it to the world. The regime must recognize that we have a new president: Edmundo González.”

Kovach regretted that more than 3 million Venezuelans in the US were unable to vote, but said they will continue to fight so that the world hears what is happening in Venezuela.

Both spokesmen denounced irregularities in the electoral process and maintained their firm position that Edmundo González Urrutia is the new president of Venezuela.

“Victory is ours and we will defend it with all our might,” Morín concluded, sending a message of hope and resistance to Venezuelans abroad.
