A Venezuelan presidential candidate denounces that she received death threats

CARACAS.- The Venezuelan presidential candidate Delsa Solórzano, one of the 13 people seeking to become the opposition standard-bearer for the 2024 elections, denounced this Saturday that she received death threats through Facebook, where they wrote insults and intimidating messages on those who assure her that she will be killed.

“I have received a death threat. This account has been harassing me since July as shown in this attached screenshot, “said the former deputy on Twitter, where she published a photograph that shows part of the messages she has received.

Among other words, the threats expounded by Solórzano include phrases such as “the collective forces of (the Colombian guerrilla of the National Liberation Army) ELN are going to assassinate you.”

They also assure her that since Ecuadorian presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio, assassinated last Wednesday at the end of a rally in Quito, “has already fallen,” “now it is her turn.”

For this reason, Solórzano, who claims to be a “victim” of constant “harassment and persecution”, has chosen to denounce this fact – he explained – “by virtue of the serious events that recently occurred in Ecuador, and given that this threat has clear political motivations” .

“Given the absence of the rule of law in Venezuela, I will make a formal complaint to international organizations. Likewise, regarding my presidential campaign, I will continue touring the country and carrying the message of change and hope that Venezuela so longs for,” added the president of the Encuentro Ciudadano party.

Last month, the Vente Venezuela (VV) party denounced that its headquarters in a town on the border with Colombia appeared vandalized with threats -attributed to the ELN- to the leader of that organization, former deputy María Corina Machado, who will also compete in the primaries of the October 22 in search of the presidential candidacy of the opposition coalition.

This complaint included images showing the graffiti written on the façade of the VV headquarters, which read, among other things, “death to María Corina”, together with the acronym for the guerrilla group that, according to various NGOs, operates in numerous border municipalities of Venezuela.

The ELN denied in a statement that it was the author of the graffiti and condemned the act.
