After George Lucas in 1977 with Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (formerly titled “War of stars”) was an enormous success, a short time later he had the idea of a Christmas special to write with all the familiar characters from the popular sci-fi universe. 1978 is The Star Wars Holiday Special then aired for the first time in the US. After that, the work disappeared into the poison cupboard. Namely as that today it becomes well worst Star Wars project ever described.

The creator of Starwars the film was so embarrassing that further broadcasts and the release on VHS were forbidden. Nevertheless, there are of course some recordings of the Christmas special. Almost 18 million people watched the event live on TV back then. George Lucas was only responsible for the script – after all, he had to deal with “Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back”. The sequel came out in 1980.
Documentary for the Christmas special is coming
Soon fans can look forward to a very special documentary. As part of the SXSW Film Festivals celebrates “A Disturbance in the Force” its premiere. Jeremy Coon and Steve Kozak’s documentary is all about the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special. Actors like Seth Green, Weird Al Yankovic, Taran Killam or Gilbert Gottfried will give their comments. When will the documentary come out?
It is currently unclear when and if A Disturbance in the Force will also be available to the public. The SXSW festival starts on March 10, 2023. Maybe there will be more information about the project before the event starts. By the way, there will soon be new Star Wars content on Disney Plus. Among other things, the third season of The Mandalorian made their debut on March 1, 2023.
