A new study published in Nutritional Neuroscience concluded that cinnamon has several cognitive benefits, improving memory and learning ability and reducing symptoms of anxiety.

Previous studies had already shown that cinnamon has positive effects on health due to its properties. anti-inflammatoryanti-oxidants and anti-carcinogenic.

A team of researchers went ahead with a meta-analysis of previous research to try to uncover more hidden benefits of this spice. Scientists have discovered 40 studies focused on the benefits of cinnamon for learning and memory — 33 accomplishments in vivofive in vitro and two clinical studies—and found that most showed positive effects.

In test studies done on living organisms, cinnamon components cinnamic acid, eugenol, cinnamaldehyde have been shown to have positive effects on cognitive functions, reports the Neuroscience News.

As for the experiences in vitro showed that adding cinnamaldehyde or cinnamon to the cell medium increased its viability and reduced aggregation of tau proteinswhich are associated with Alzheimer’s.

The two clinical studies focused on cinnamon consumption by young adults and pre-diabetic adults under the age of 60. Young adults were instructed to eat cinnamon sticks while pre-diabetic adults consumed two grams of white bread with cinnamon.

Young adults noticed improvements in cognitive functions and their memory, as well as a reduction in anxiety symptoms. However, prediabetic participants had very little or no change in their cognitive functions after eating the cinnamon roll.
