They accuse a 16-year-old teenager of shooting and killing his 15-year-old girlfriend when she tried to end the relationship

GREELEY, Colo. – A 16-year-old Greeley man is facing murder charges after allegedly shooting and killing his girlfriend when she tried to end their relationship.

On June 16, 2023, Greeley Police responded to a report of a shot at a mobile home, where they sadly found the victim, identified as 15-year-old Lily Silva-Lopez, with multiple gunshot wounds. Tragically, she was pronounced deceased at the scene.

According to a statement from the Weld County 19th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, the teens had been dating for approximately six months and that the victim had attempted to end the relationship approximately four weeks prior to the shooting.

Jovanni Sirio Cardona, 16, has been accused of:

  • First Degree Murder, after premeditation,
  • Second Degree Murder, murder in the course of a felony,
  • Trespassing in the First Degree,
  • Aggravated Robbery and possession of a pistol by a Minor.

The investigation determined that Sirio Cardona approached the home without prior notice, forced entry through a bedroom window, and fired several shots at the victim.

A judge set bail at $2,000,000. Defendant is scheduled for a court appearance on August 3, 2023, at 8:30 am in Division 17 of the Weld County Courthouse.
