What would be a normal day at work in the life of Carlos Ayala ended with an incident that sent him to a hospital with severe injuries.
Ayala and two other colleagues were paving a segment of a street in the Garden Grove area. Seeing a group of teenagers coming out of a karaoke club, they asked them not to step on the paved area.
The youths’ response was a brutal attack that left him with brain bleeding, a skull fracture, and a swollen brain, according to his daughter, Sara Ayala.
The young woman suffers when she sees her father lying in a hospital bed.
“I found him and I had to admit him as if he weren’t alive, it’s not worth it,” says the young woman.
The incident occurred on June 20, in an area of Brookhurst Street, around 12:45 am The attackers were part of a group made up of 15 to 20 young people.
“They didn’t think so and it was that they reacted that way,” says Sara Ayala. “He was just working, it is not for you to attack him to such an extent that he is left like this. It’s already seven days in the hospital.”
The young woman searched for her father for more than nine hours in various hospitals until she finally located him, in critical condition, at the Medical Center of the University of California, Irvine.
During the first two days he remained unconscious and the doctors indicate that his prognosis is guarded.

“They say that it will take a long process, because the damage to his brain was great and all the blows are on his head,” says Sara Ayala.
Carlos Ayala’s family regrets that the authorities have not been able to identify and capture any of the attackers.
Nor do they understand that they have not released the videos from the security cameras of the businesses near the place where the attack occurred. That is why they ask for the support of the community.
“They would have already caught someone or they already knew who it was that left him this bad,” says Sara Ayala. “If someone knows something, please tell them.”
