Mexico City.- Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard entrusted the Mexican ambassadors in the world with the mission of taking advantage of any space to demand that the United States and Europe stop arms trafficking to Mexico.

Before leaving for their assigned countries, the Mexican diplomatic corps heard from Ebrard the list of priorities that they should promote and disseminate abroad this year, among which the distribution of weapons in the country stood out.

“Then control of arms, co-responsibility of the countries that produce, sell and distribute them. Enough of talking about the problems, the effects, but the causes not because they irritate us, not anymore, that will be another great battle in 2023,” he warned.

He affirmed that just as the time has come to regulate nuclear weapons, light weapons must be controlled, because they are the ones that are causing violence, and in the case of Mexico it is a priority.

“We are interested in reducing violence at any cost. All the concern we have daily is how we reduce violence in Mexico. Can violence be reduced in Mexico if we do nothing with weapons? It cannot be. Why? Because There is a universal principle, the greater the availability of weapons, the greater the violence.

“That is why we are interested in this issue and we are not going to stop insisting, and they are lawsuits, they are legal actions, they are political proposals, they are regulatory proposals, they are control actions to prevent them from entering our territory and that is in the priority of Mexico,” he said.

The Foreign Minister said that the operation to arrest drug trafficker Ovidio Guzmán in Culiacán, Sinaloa will be used as an example, since 65 percent of the weapons found and used by criminals are from the United States, and the rest from Europe.

In addition, he announced that with the support of the Attorney General of the Republic, a map will be made on the origin of the weapons, the companies, and it will be taken to the United States as evidence.

“Investigate where these weapons were purchased, who bought them and how they got to Mexico. That may take us a couple of months, but we are going to investigate it and Mexico is going to present the case in the United States,” he added.

Protect Mexicans and promote the 4T

On the other hand, Ebrard also entrusted the ambassadors with protecting Mexicans living outside of Mexico and creating agreements to accelerate the country’s economic growth.

As well as promoting labor mobility, fighting for a cultural change of thought, defense of cultural heritage and promoting the achievements of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

In labor mobility, the mission is not only to link migration with security, but also the need to regularize and allow work.

He affirmed that although Mexico is growing economically, it is necessary that they manage to attract more investment, and thereby help reduce poverty.

The Foreign Minister argued that in the cultural field it is necessary to promote the thinking of the 4T to face extremism or supremacism, even, he said, change machismo and promote gender equality.

“We are also questioning the right of countries that invaded and colonized others to have the trophies of their conquests in their museums.

“Why do they have to have our Moctezuma plume? ‘It’s not that it’s not from Moctezuma,’ they say, so why do you resist giving it to us? Why are auctions allowed when it is evident that the origin is illegal,” he added .

And he recalled that in innovation they are asking to bring to the country everything that helps to face problems in various sectors, such as health.

When asked to promote the achievements of López Obrador, he assured that he was not a “vulgar sycophant”, but in the world they should know that the President is one of the best qualified.

In addition to boasting the strength of the peso, social programs, impact works such as the new Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) and that homicides and femicides are falling.

“We are a successful country, we come from great civilizations, but today we are a great civilization and that is what we are going to defend everywhere,” he added.
