Members of local organizations and elected officials are demanding urgent comprehensive action to resolve what they describe as a health and environmental crisis caused by the BQE Highway.
During a press conference organized by the BQE Coalition for Environmental Justice, community plans and demands for a comprehensive transformation of the highway were announced.
Among the actions they demanded are:
- the immediate suspension of any lane widening plan or the elevated section of the BQE,
- address air pollution, and
- approve and implement community-led plans based on environmental justice principles for the entire corridor.
They also ask for important investments by the municipal and state Department of Transportation.
