They develop bioplastic from avocado

In The Good News: Faced with the need for an alternative to plastic, researchers successfully develop a bioplastic from avocado byproducts. This bioplastic takes advantage of the waste produced in avocado processing industries, in which guacamole is made from this fruit.

The manufacturing and reinforcement process of this bioplastic was carried out by impregnating paper in a solution of the extract of avocado by-products and after its evaporation, the material that remains is impregnated into the microfibers, occupying the pores and cavities of this paper, improving its mechanical and its ability to function as a barrier.

Furthermore, with the bioactive compounds present in avocado by-products, this bioplastic has increased its biodegradability in seawater and its antioxidant capacity. This bioplastic was introduced as a material for food packaging, due to its bactericidal capacity for the storage of perishable products.
