Veracruz Mexico.- A criminal cell dedicated to extorting and beating taxi drivers in Nogales, Sonora, was dismantled after the arrest of its two leaders and six operators, the last of whom was arrested this Saturday.

The Sonora Attorney General’s Office (FGE) reported in a statement that the arrests began on January 1 with the capture of Vicente N, alias “El Chente”, identified as the leader of the gang.

Later, on March 10, Fernando Alejandro “N”, the second in command, was arrested.

Between March 14 and 24, Ángel Abraham “N”, Ramón Antonio “N”, Benjamín “N”, alias “Benny”; Germán Gerardo “N” and José Ángel “N”.

While this Saturday Martín Alberto N was arrested, after a search in Colonia Las Bellotas, where AMIC agents arrested the 22-year-old young man in flagrante delicto.

He had in his possession 20 packages with the drug known as crystal.

In addition, houses were searched in the Pima 2 and Esperanza neighborhoods, where a wooden plank, five cell phones and a laptop were seized, indications that are included in investigation folders.

During the various operations to dismantle the criminal cell, four white Ford Focus vehicles with taxi signs and superimposed license plates, 8,800 pesos, various documents, and an electronic tablet with information about the criminal group were also seized.

“With these actions, the FGE has managed to dismantle the criminal structure of “El Chente” and his gang, which was dedicated to extorting and beating taxi drivers in Nogales,” the justice body concluded.
