According to Norwegian media, two more people received minor injuries.

VG writes that a man has been arrested after the incident, suspected of deliberately driving into a crowd. Around lunchtime on Sunday, the Norwegian police confirm that they are temporarily introducing so-called “national armament” due to what happened.

“The incident in Steinkjer is serious. The motive for the act is still unknown and the situation appears to be unsolved,” says police chief Benedicte Bjørnland in a press release.

According to the police, they are now investigating whether the collision was deliberate or an accident. According to NRK, the arrested man, who is in his 30s and lives in the area, is formally suspected of negligence in traffic and drunk driving.

Steinkjer is located in the interior of the Trondheimsfjord in central Norway. The main rule for Norwegian police officers is to be unarmed until the management, due to a changed security situation, decides that the weapons should be retrieved.
