The relationship between the SPD and the Alliance Greens in the coalition is increasingly characterized by mutual annoyance and disappointment. Anton Hofreiter, member of the Bundestag for the Alliance Greens and chairman of the European Committee, told the “Welt am Sonntag” (WamS) that after the most recent meeting of the coalition committee it was clear: “The Scholz-SPD is no longer the natural ally of the Greens.” Especially in his Party there had been criticism of the results and the Chancellor’s actions.

According to the newspaper, criticism of the Greens’ climate course is growing internally among social democrats. Voices are raised that refer to the contentual proximity to the FDP. “In the SPD, the interests of workers and industry are coming more into focus. Our economy operates worldwide, it is the backbone of our prosperity, which cannot be burdened at will. With this attitude, a substantive proximity to the FDP cannot be denied, ”said Joe Weingarten, member of the Bundestag, to the newspaper.

His findings on the Greens, on the other hand, are frosty, especially in view of the replacement of oil and gas heating systems, which the coalition partner is emphatically demanding. “In my constituency, I am assailed by voters who think the heating exchange process is too brisk. People have to count. We have to take that into account, the Greens also have to learn to make politics according to their election results,” said Weingarten.

We don’t want to make ourselves comfortable and sit it out like the grand coalition.

Robert HabeckFederal Minister of Economics (Greens)

The Green Minister for Economic Affairs and Vice-Chancellor Robert Habeck described the “human understanding” in the coalition as very good after the sometimes heated arguments within the traffic light. “Despite many challenges and a lot of work, we also laugh a lot”, he told the newspapers of the Funke media group. At the same time, he warned the alliance: “It is important that we concentrate on the actual task of acting for Germany – and not for our own Twitter followers.”

He does not want to deny “that we as a government have not given a nice picture in the past few weeks,” said the Green politician. “The tone was sometimes too harsh. In the matter, however, it is necessary that we struggle with each other to find the right solution.” He added: “We don’t want to make ourselves comfortable and sit out everything like the grand coalition.”

Habeck emphasized that the most recent coalition committee of the SPD, the Greens and the FDP had resolved blockages in terms of content. “Since then, three laws from my area alone have been unified that have stuck: the Energy Efficiency Act, the Building Energy Act and the reform of competition law. The cabinet has already passed the latter; the two energy laws follow later this month.”(tsp)
