Mexico City.- Senator Germán Martínez submitted a request to the Chamber of Deputies to initiate a political trial against Minister Yasmín Esquivel for plagiarizing her thesis.
“I present it because ethically it is my duty, because this is the way in which a division of Powers is exercised. I have absolutely nothing personal, and yes professional, against the student Yasmín Esquivel,” he stated.
The founder of the Plural Group delivered the request -of 57 pages plus the annexes- in the General Secretariat. If successful, San Lázaro would send the file to the Senate of the Republic to vote for her dismissal as Minister.
“I immediately announce that, if it proceeds, the procedure is that here she is accused, here she is only declared guilty or innocent, and then it would take turns to the Senate so that, in a sentencing jury, they condemn her and here she is In my writing, I will excuse myself, for the accusation I make, of voting,” he explained.
Martínez Cázarez assured that “this is a matter in which no convenient silence should prevail: those who keep their word, to see if they can achieve a favorable sentence, will fail. Those who lukewarmly demand justice, will fail. Respect for Constitution. It is demanded with passion and civic courage, and with that I come, in an absolutely personal capacity”.
Given the fact that Morena has a majority in the Investigative Section, the Michoacán lawyer said that he was convinced “that there are moral reserves in all parties. There are good and honest people and there are also some lambiscones. Those of us who use the State of Law and decency”.
“I am putting Yasmín Esquivel on trial, I am not condemning her, I am not even going to vote. I want her to be put on trial. The heart of this issue is that it is damaging the performance of the Judiciary.”
The central argument of the request, he explained, “is that there is, as established by the Law of Responsibilities and the Constitution, an abnormal dispatch, a toxic dispatch of the issues that she deals with, for not having the credentials to occupy that chair in the Supreme Court of Justice”.
For Germán Martínez, the Minister “is not occupying the position with the credentials established by the Constitution: title and good reputation. I hope that there will be no silence from the deputies.”
The senator also pointed out that there is silence at UNAM.
“The autonomy of the UNAM is courage to defend the future of the boys who study there. With what face are they going to fail the students of the UNAM or are they going to demand a good academic performance?”
“I hope that Yasmín Esquivel will retire from the Supreme Court, throwing herself onto the street of Pino Suárez,” he stressed.
“UNAM should not pass the buck, in that I agree with President López Obrador. UNAM can withdraw the title as it has withdrawn from other kidnappers.”
