Veracruz Mexico.- The City Council of Villa Sola de Vega, in the southern highlands of Oaxaca, announced that circulation after 10:00 p.m. will be prohibited for “unjustified” reasons in the demarcation.

The curfew was implemented due to the violence that has been experienced in the area.

“In order to preserve the safety of citizens, the population is hereby informed that unjustified transit on public roads is restricted after 10 at night, for this purpose surveillance tours will be carried out,” they wrote in a statement.

In the surveillance tours, according to the document, authorities from the agencies, rural centers and section headquarters will participate.

Authorities indicated that the measure will be maintained until security is restored in Villa Sola de la Vega, a municipality populated by 12,525 inhabitants, according to INEGI, and located 96 kilometers from the capital.

In February, an armed group gunned down five people in Santiago Amoltepec, in the Sola de Vega community.

There, three sons of former Mayor Abel García and two of his bodyguards were identified among the victims.

On April 27, the authorities sent a message to the population asking them to remain calm in light of the announcement of the arrival of a criminal group in the Municipality the day before.
