Bogotá.- Unknown persons kidnapped this Tuesday in the Colombian town of Convención, which is part of the Catatumbo region, a Camila Suarez Galvanan official of the National Registry, the body in charge of organizing the elections in the country.
According to versions of the locals, Suárez, 20 years old, was kidnapped when she arrived at her place of work by armed men who were traveling on a motorcycle and who forced her to get on that vehicle.
The national registrar, Alexander Vega, rejected the kidnapping of the official and asked that she be released since this crime also affects the normal development of the municipal and regional elections on October 29.
«We reject any act of violence that affects the normal development of the elections and the free exercise of the vote and especially against our officials; this time the kidnapping of Camila Suárez Galván in the municipality of Convención, Norte de Santander,” Vega told reporters.
Likewise, it urged the national government and the security organizations to “promptly clarify this fact” that up to now none of the armed groups operating in the area have attributed it to them.
“We reject the kidnapping of Camila Suárez Galván, an official of the Registry in events that occurred in the municipality of Convención and we demand that the captors release her immediately,” said the Governor of Norte de Santander on social networks.
The Government demanded of her captors “the immediate release of Camila” and at the same time made “a call for her integrity to be respected so that she can return safely to her family.”
He also urged the “violent groups to immediately cease their actions in the region” in which the guerrillas of the National Liberation Army (ELN), FARC dissidents, a stronghold of the Popular Liberation Army (EPL) and groups have a strong presence. of drug traffickers.
The Catatumbo region, where Convención is located, is one of the poorest and most forgotten in Colombia, which also includes the municipalities of Tibú, El Carmen, El Tarra, Hacarí, La Playa, San Calixto, Sardinata and Teorama.
