To avoid cases of dengue, zika and chikungunya late summer, the Municipality of La Plata will start an awareness campaign to minimize the reproduction of mosquitoes in different neighborhoods of the city. The tasks will reach Monday to City Bell, on Tuesday at Gorina and on Wednesday at Ringuelet.

“The insect needs still water and some shade to lay its eggs and reproduce, which is why the responsibility of the entire community in the rubbish is very important, especially the days after the rains,” highlighted the local Health Secretary, Enrique Rifourcat.

During the activity, members of the health area and each community delegation will make an extensive tour of the neighborhoods to provide useful information so that neighbors know the correct way to limit the spread of the insect.

In addition, the Pest team of the Directorate of Zoonoses and Health Promoters will work to eliminate possible sources of reproduction of Aedes aegypti on public roads and will carry out vector control in green spaces.

“Door-to-door awareness is key for families to ensure that they do not accumulate water in their homes, thus avoiding the formation of hatcheries,” said the head of the local area, Paola Miceli.

PREVENTION

The recommendations to prevent dengue, zika and chikungunya are the following:

  • Discard cans, old tires and any obsolete object capable of accumulating water.

  • Take care and weed the gardens and cut the grass once a week.

  • Put mosquito nets on windows.

  • Use repellent.

  • Dry the water from sidewalks and terraces.

  • Regularly change the water in animal drinkers.

  • Leave containers such as buckets, jars, cans and bottles upside down.

  • Cover the water tanks.

  • Use damp sand instead of water in vases, vases, and containers of aquatic plants.

  • Clean clogged drain gutters.

  • Get rid of water bottles tied around trees.

  • Keep the surroundings of the houses clean.

  • In canvas pools, verify the absence of larvae and keep them dry, folded and under a roof when not in use.
