The last time that Eunice Jocelyn, then 27 years old, was seen by her family, she had gotten a new job with a person who presented herself as a federal representative, she had moved from her parents’ home to an apartment in the Miguel Hidalgo City Hall and his visits had become more and more sporadic. January 27 will be one year since that meeting and the trace of the whereabouts of the young woman is meager.

The Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation folder for disappearance that is on hold and Eunice’s relatives are now asking that the investigation be reclassified under the crime of human trafficking. This is what is known about the case.

THE JOB OFFER

In November 2021, Eunice Jocelyn Montaño worked at the Hooters restaurant in Polanco, where she met a group of local customers who claimed to collaborate with federal deputies, the young woman’s father, Héctor Montaño, narrated; Among these people was a woman who introduced herself as a legislator and called herself Irma Ester Serrano Méndez. Through the restaurant manager, Serrano Mendez let Eunice know that she was looking for an assistant.

According to Hector, his daughter was moved. The pay promised to be better and it meant moving to a job with more possibilities for professional growth. Eunice accepted the offer.

During the first two weeks in her new position, the young woman received at least two cars on loan from her employers to move from her family home, located in Colonia Valle de Aragón, in the State of Mexico, to a home in the Mayor’s Office Miguel Hidalgo. Then came Serrano’s offer to get her an apartment closer to her place of work. Eunice then moved to Colonia Anahuac.

“I had to trust her. I didn’t really agree because I saw strange things and I told her, but my daughter was excited because it was a good job. She promised me that she would come to see us on weekends and she did very little “.

LAST MEETING

On January 27, 2022, Eunice’s father and brother met her outside a building in Colonia Anahuac. They only saw her for a few minutes in which they handed her personal items that she had requested. Since then they have not seen her again. For a few months she continued to maintain telephone contact.

However, he stopped using his personal number and began calling from at least six numbers that, according to investigations by the Prosecutor’s Office, are domiciled in the state of Morelos. However, this type of contact was becoming more and more sporadic. On May 10, 2022, his last call was recorded. At that time, the Montaño family had already filed a disappearance complaint with the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office (FGJ).

INQUIRY ON SUSPENSE

The Montaño family reported Eunice missing after she stopped using her phone number and started calling from home phones in Morelos. A series of summonses were delivered at the residence of Colonia Anahuac. But she never showed up.

In the last contact they had with the young woman, Eunice asked that the complaint before the Prosecutor’s Office be withdrawn. According to Héctor, during her call they could hear someone giving her instructions on what to answer. Faced with this situation, the young woman’s parents request that the investigation be reclassified under the crime of human trafficking.

During their search, the family even went to San Lázaro to ask about Serrano Méndez. However, the staff who received them assured them that they were not the first to come looking for young people who supposedly worked for her.

“I got very angry, because if they had already seen that I was not the first person to ask, that already meant an alarm that something bad was happening,” Héctor recounted.

Meanwhile, the investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office is still open, but the progress is zero, Héctor accused.

“We’re still working on it, but I want my daughter to know that we’re still looking for her. That I’m doing everything possible to find out about her.”
