Mexico City.- The lawyer Abraham Moisés Cano Díaz presented in the Chamber of Deputies the first impeachment complaint against the Minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, Yasmín Esquivel, for the plagiarism of her undergraduate thesis.
This procedure could be the option to get her removed from office, given the demand from various sectors that she resign and her refusal to do so.
Cano Díaz reported that the lawsuit, presented on January 17, has already been ratified in the Chamber.
Lawyer for the UNAM, Cano Díaz indicated that he hopes that the Chamber of Deputies resolves the case.
“The impeachment complaint against Minister Yasmín Esquivel for plagiarism of her thesis has already been filed and ratified.
“Now the ball is in the court of @Mx_Diputados,” Cano Díaz wrote on social networks.
In the event that the lawsuit were to prosper, in the Chamber of Deputies as the accusing party and in the Senate, as the Sentencing Jury, the dismissal of Esquivel Mossa would proceed and his disqualification from performing any function in the public service, in accordance with article 110 of the Constitution.
However, in the current 65th Legislature, no impeachment lawsuit against public servants has proceeded.
In fact, the Prior Examination Subcommittee has not met to attend to the accumulated impeachment requests.
The last impeachment case addressed in the Chamber of Deputies was the one promoted by Morena against Rosario Robles, in March 2020.
Although it was turned over to the Senate, this Chamber did not resolve the respective sentence and the trial against the former Secretary of Social Development and Sedatu in the six-year term of Enrique Peña Nieto remained in the freezer.
For the moment, the ratification of the demand is in the Directorate of Legal Services of the Chamber of Deputies, and it was signed by its owner, Olinsser Elihu Pichardo Mora, who must turn it over to the legislators for analysis and resolution.
