WASHINGTON DC – The death of a Hispanic boy who fell from the fourteenth floor of an apartment complex in Alexandria seems to be the tip of the iceberg of the plight his mother was going through.
According to her former co-workers, Gloria is a single mother from Honduras whose life was driven by her 3-year-old son, who had hearing problems.
“I witnessed when she went with her baby in her arms to wait for a bus to take him to the babysitter (and then) wait for a bus to pick him up after working eight hours,” said Karina Arévalo, one of the former classmates of the woman.
“As a single mom, she had a lot of difficulties. She struggled a lot to take the child to Washington because she wouldn’t listen,” Arévalo explained.
Another of her former classmates stated that Gloria’s economic and emotional situation is devastating at the moment. The woman lived and worked at the Arrive Alexandria complex.
A 3-year-old boy died Wednesday after falling from a building in Alexandria, Virginia, according to authorities.
“It is a pain that cannot be said, nor condolences because I do not know what words to say,” said an employee from the same place who preferred not to be identified.
However, Arévalo maintained that Gloria lived with her only son and with her sister who is the mother of two girls, including a 15-year-old girl who was taking care of the little one at the time of the events.
“We worked together in that building. She was working and she kind of felt a presentiment and left (but) they didn’t want to let her in there because of what had happened,” she said.
Telemundo 44 visited the housing complex, but was unable to locate Gloria.
Both colleagues hope that this story can lead the community in the area to cooperate in the process that this mother is going through to pay for the funeral.
